Since the beginning of CBC, we’ve been enthusiastic eBike riders and service technicians. That’s not going to change, if your bike is legal then we love it.
What is changing is the nature of the eBikes available in the market, and how this affects CBC as a business. We have all seen the explosion of ‘fat bikes’ and the social damage – and deaths – they are causing in the hands of young and old.
Thankfully, in Dec ’25 the Federal Government reinstated the EN15194 design standard on eBikes and now these bikes are no longer compliant. They can’t be imported into Australia.
They are still being sold though, my social feed is still full of offers.
CBC has never sold non-compliant eBikes and we never will.
On January 22nd we were told by our Insurer that we do not have liability coverage for servicing and repairs on non-compliant vehicles. This includes any component of a vehicle that is non-compliant, like a wheel.
And before you ask…the insurer does not care if our customers sign a declaration that the vehicle will only be used on private property. The legal protection that this kind of declaration affords is a myth.
From today Jan 28th, CBC won’t work on your bike or any component of your bike if we know or suspect it to be non-compliant.
Sorry folks, we are a small business and we can’t argue with our insurer. These electric motorcycles are not safe for our kids to ride.
