$3 million shared pathway to connect Bridges Hill Park to Wine Country

No more cyclists having to dodge cars on the narrow sections of Allandale Rd. Less buses taking kids to school because they can safely ride their bikes. More ways for locals and tourists to move about without adding to road congestion. Cessnock City Council is pleased to announce it has been successful in receiving $3 million in funding for a shared pathway which will connect Bridges Hill Park to Wine Country.

This exciting project is funded through the NSW Government’s NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program. It will start at the popular Bridges Hill Park and finish at St Phillips Christian College on Lomas Lane, Nulkaba.
In addition, the project will include a 2.5 metre shared pathway linking Allandale Road to Nulkaba Public School.

Upon completion, the 2.5 metre wide, five kilometre shared pathway will be enjoyed by cyclists and pedestrians and it will also be wheelchair friendly.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal is looking forward to the project getting underway and providing better connectivity through shared pathways which is one of his key priorities as Mayor.

“The fact that people will be able to walk or ride safely into the Cessnock CBD from Nulkaba is just fantastic,” Councillor Suvaal said.
“It will also promote a healthier and more active lifestyle for those living in the area. Instead of always jumping in the car to get into town or to drop the kids to school, locals can consider cycling or walking.”
The project will also include end-of-trip/mid-trip bicycle storage infrastructure, water bottle filling stations, seating and shelters.
Quotes are currently being sought for the survey and design of the pathway and construction is scheduled to start mid-year once tenders have been awarded.
