Wax Conversion

If you’re converting to Waxed chains then this is how we do it in our workshop.

First we remove chain and cassette and clean them in the ultrasonic bath. Note we’ll only do this with a new or near-new chain as it’s impossible to get the shite out of an old chain!

Once the chain is cleaned and dry it goes into our Molten Speed Wax bath for two hot-cold cycles to really get the lubricant into the chain rollers. We’ll wax a new clip-link for you too.

We clean your front chainring on your bike and reinstall your cassette then the waxed chain goes on and we retune your shift.

A waxed chain is good for 100km on MTBs, double that for gravel and halve it for wet-weather riding. Road bikes are often good for 500kms and double it for indoor trainers.

We always recommend starting with two waxed chains and rotating them as you re-wax.
